Pear Tree House Holiday Cottage - Dog Friendly Accommodation near York
A warm welcome awaits you at Pear Tree House Holiday Cottage. We offer a relaxing and comfortable stay in the peaceful countryside of Sutton-on-the-Forest which lies just 8 miles north of York close to the Hambleton Hills. Pear Tree House is the perfect getaway for those seeking a rural location for a perfect family holiday.
The cottage is nestled among picturesque farmland with access to the surrounding countryside from the door. Pear Tree House is an eighteenth century cottage and the house is full of period charm, but the addition of a glass-lanterned extension containing a large open-plan kitchen and sitting room means that it also supremely comfortable, well-equipped, and furnished to a high standard.
During your stay, take the time to explore the beautiful ancient city of York. You can leave the car at home, the No.40 bus stops right outside the door and only takes 20 minutes to the city centre. Visit world famous attractions such as York Minster, the National Railway Museum, the Castle Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre, Betty’s Café, The City Walls and the Shambles. Immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of the region, and enjoy the charming shops, restaurants and cafés that York is famed for.
For nature lovers, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. Take a leisurely stroll through the woodland opposite the house or go for a bike ride along the scenic countryside trails. The attractive Georgian market towns of Easingwold and Helmsley are close by and well worth discovering. Castle Howard, a beautiful country house is well worth a visit as is the ruined abbey at Rievaulx. The North Yorkshire Moors, The Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Heritage coastline are easily reachable by car and are just waiting to be explored.
At Pear Tree House Holiday Cottage, we pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming experience for our guests. Your hosts Ben and Rosie live next door at The Smithy (at the end of the shared courtyard). They are usually on hand to answer questions or provide support if necessary but otherwise will leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday. They look forward to giving you a warm welcome.
Dog Walking
Walk straight across the road from Pear Tree House into the visitor car park and through the gate into the ancient woodland of the Sutton Park estate and the fields beyond – perfect dog walking on your doorstep! The woodland includes many natives species including oak ash, sycamore and elm and is brought to life at different times of the year by snowdrops, daffodils, bluebells, rhododendrons and azaleas.
Alternatively, turn right out of the house and walk down the village past the church. The footpath will take you safely all the way to Huby, the nearest village, just 1.5 miles away. Or half a mile out of the village, turn right when your get to the cemetery and the path will take you across the fields to Huby.
