Howgill Lodge - Dog Friendly Campsite in Skipton, Yorkshire
There is no better place for a peaceful and relaxing getaway than Howgill Lodge Camping and Caravan Park. In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Howgill Lodge is located between Bolton Abbey and Burnsall, a truly idyllic setting to get away from stress and enjoy what nature has to offer. Imagine waking up to the amazing views of rolling Yorkshire hills, with the sound of birdsong on the breeze. If you’re looking for a place to unwind and be at one with nature, Howgill Lodge is the perfect place for you.
Howgill Lodge is a hidden gem situated near the River Wharfe, and part of the Duke Of Devonshire’s Chatsworth Estate. The site is ingeniously terraced so that all guests can take advantage of the beautiful views. The landscape around Howgill Lodge is typical of the Yorkshire Dales, with unspoilt greenery and dotted with traditional stone barns. There are plenty of charming villages in the surrounding area perfect for you to explore and get an authentic taste of the Yorkshire small town life.
Here at Howgill Lodge we are able to accommodate tents and caravans. We offer both pitches with and without electric hook up. Our site has a main block of facilities including hot showers, a covered washing up area, and a coin operated washing machine and tumble dryer. There are numerous smaller toilet and shower blocks in other areas around the site.
We are a dog-friendly campsite with a large dog-walking field. There is plenty of space around the site for children to play, and even a woodland area for them to explore. No camping trip is complete without toasting some marshmallows, and so you can hire our popular fire pits from reception. They even come with kindling and logs!
We are delighted to welcome Audrey, Dorothy and Ethel our 3 gorgeous alpaca girls. You will find them happily grazing in their paddock next door to the camping field.
Although Howgill is set in beautiful and unspoilt countryside, there is no shortage of things for you to do! Bolton Abbey, Embsay Steam Railway, Skipton Castle, Barden Bridge, Aysgarth Falls, Stump Cross Caverns, and Ripley Castle are just a few of the places you can visit near the campsite.
Howgill Lodge is the perfect base for those who want to explore the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales, with many walking and cycle routes very close by. There is something for everyone, whether that means a relaxing stroll to the village of Appletreewick and one of their pubs, or climbing to the top of the famous Simon’s Seat – one of the most popular lower hills in the Yorkshire Dales. If you’re an admirer of waterfalls then be sure to head to the Valley of Desolation where you can find two stunning waterfalls, not to mention the incredible scenery. Cycling enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that we are located close to the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire cycling routes, as well as being within easy reach of miles of off road cycling.
The closest pubs to our campsite are the Craven Arms and the New Inn, both in Appletreewick serving fine ales and great food. The well known Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey is only a few minutes’ drive from Howgill. There are plenty of opportunities for shopping, eating, and drinking in the local towns of Burnsall, Grassington, Skipton, and Ilkley.
For a special treat during your trip, head next door to the Brownie Barn where they sell fresh barista coffee, smoothies, milkshakes, not to mention their famously freshly baked brownies. Sitting outside with a brownie whilst admiring the views is a great way to finish your day of exploring.
