Uist Forest Retreat - Dog Friendly Accommodation in Outer Hebrides, Western Isles
Unwind in our stunning self-catering cabins, nestled high amongst the forest where you can look out to long sandy beaches, Vallay Island and the hills of Harris in the distance.
Look out for wildlife. Relax by the wood burning stove or soak in the mesmerising views and ever-changing colours of the Atlantic Ocean from your freestanding bath. This is an ideal retreat for couples to truly ‘get away’ from it all and experience the exceptionally scenic landscape of the Outer Hebrides.
Cailleach-oidhche (Sleeps 2)
Our easily accessible roundhouse with a low access ramp to the front door. Cailleach-oidhche means ‘owl’ or literal translation ‘Night lady’! We are fortunate to have long-eared owls in the forest and hearing the ‘squeaky door’ chicks is quite an experience! You can also see short-eared owls hunting in the area during the day.
All the timber is UK sourced and the sedum roof a stonecrop and wildflower mix, creating a little wildlife habitat. All cabins are raised off the ground in the style of a treehouse, to leave the ground below untouched and to give the best opportunity to admire the unrivalled sea views along the coastline. Both circular self-catering cabins (Cailleach-oidhche and Iolaire) are based on the prehistoric wheelhouse design of the Iron Age, the remains of which can be seen in many places throughout Uist.
Iolaire (sleeps 2)
Iolaire translates as eagle. Both the white-tailed eagle (or sea-eagle) and the golden eagle are often seen in the area, with the sea-eagle often seen flying by both cabins. Please note access to this roundhouse is by a number of steps.

Damh (sleeps 2)
New for 2019 is Damh, meaning ‘stag’ in Gaelic. Slightly larger than its roundhouse sisters, with the same mesmerising forest and sea views. Every room has outstanding forest and sea views. Tucked away amongst the forest with plenty of privacy as it looks out over the tree tops. Access is by ramp.
