  • Dog walk in Virginia Water, Surrey
  • Short walk along the shore of the lake
  • Plenty of opportunities for swimming
  • Small refreshment stand & a picnic area

for humans
A very pleasant walk. You can do a short walk along the shore of the lake- one mile starting from the car park on the A30 either to the ruins (turn left) or to the the Totem Pole (turn right) or make it longer and walk all around the lake (about 5 miles).
for dogs
The water is very clean with nice shallows and ideal for the older dog who just wants to paddle or cool off. For the more adventurous dog there are plenty of opportunities for swimming. There are also some lovely cool woods with well trodden paths for hot days.

The park is well used by a huge variety of dogs ranging from tiny tea cups to enormous mastiffs. The park is also suitable for use by disabled dogs on wheels and also in buggies. We have also seen scootering dogs and at the other end of the park there have been sledders.

The main paths around the lake are regularly patrolled by wardens in small electric vans and there are several poo bins at strategic points.

there is a pub next door to the main car park but it is not dog friendly

there is a small refreshment stand and a picnic area but there are NO TOILETS at this end of the park. there are also various other refreshment stands throughout the park.

parking is charged at £1.50 per hour or £6 for the day - please do not park on the A30 - it is not safe to cross the road

if you are a regular visitor you can get a car park pass

Reviews

“Wish I had read the review above before yesterday - my dog jumped into the pond by the totem pole and was attacked by a swan - it trapped him against the stone steps and slapped him constantly trying to push him under the water. He was terrified and if not for my daughter jumping down to grab him and a lovely man shouting and waving at the swan who knows if he would be here with me this morning! ”

“Lovely, lovely walk for us and our dogs. Everything your dog could want, lovely woods, many other walkers with dogs and of course the clean lake for swimming. Beware of your dogs being attacked by the swans, they can try to atta k your dogs whilst they are swimming. During picnic season there are lots of families picnicking without dogs and can be very off-ish towards your dogs. Easy enough to avoid those folks as its a big place. Generally you meet many liked minded dog friendly people. We are sure you'll love it, has always been our dogs favourite place! ”
