EXCLUSIVE Wild pitches for Pitch-your-own campers
Camping out deep in the Woods, with no-one else around, is what some people long for: solitude, self-sufficiency, time out and retreat.
Isolated on the slopes of Ruberslaw by hundreds of metres of woodland or gorse and heather, we have created a very secluded pitchewhere you can set up your own camp giving you all of this.
A fire bowl is provided with logs supplied daily, so you may sit around the open camp fire in the evening, cooking and chatting (you will be asked to follow the rules for Fire Safety to ensure that no accidents happen and that we can continue to allow open fires.
Private Facilities
All pitches are serviced by an exclusive, discreetly positioned Thunderbox pine hut. These have a sink supplied with fresh water daily for drinking, washing and washing up and a composting toilet. These are cleaned daily (you will be asked to follow the rules for using this greenest of technologies to ensure that the composting works perfectly see Eco & Safety.
Woodland Pitches
We have three wild woodland sites where a group of pitches can be booked, but the sites are also suitable for single tent bookings - you might be lucky and have the wood all to yourselves! If you want to guarantee no neighbours take a look at our Exclusive Wild Camping.
The forest floor pitches are not the “lawns” that are found in the Walled Garden, but have been strimmed and raked over in preparation for use. Woodland sites are serviced by a discreetly positioned Thunderbox pine hut. These have a sink supplied with fresh water daily for drinking, washing, washing up and a composting toilet. These are cleaned daily You will be asked to follow the rules for using this greenest of technologies to ensure that the composting works perfectly see Eco & Safety.
Walled Garden
Lawn pitches sit on terraces in the upper part of the restored garden, in the Old Orchard and on the lawns near the Hub. We have small, medium, large and very large pitches - Please think of the footprint area of your tent when booking.
We have restored the Edwardian Garden, with footpaths following the original layout, and beds full of colourful flowers and shrubs. Sit around the pond in front of the Edwardian Glass Houses or play croquet and other games on the games lawn.
Walled Gardens are places of peace and quiet. Please respect our unique "campsite in a Walled Garden" and help us preserve the special ambiance and peaceful atmosphere.
Wild Woods Glamping
Escape the working week and embrace the gentle pace of lowland living in one of our Woodland Safari Tents. Relax in nature, under canvas, looking out on beautiful views, sunsets and surrounded by nature. Come find yourself, coorie-in together beside a cosy fire, drink in the clean air and possibly find a wee adventure or two.
Isolated on the slopes of Ruberslaw by hundreds of metres of woodland, our Woodland Safari Tents will give you all of this. Tucked away into their own woodland clearing like a Border Reiver’s hideout, the tents offer wild seclusion and simple but stylish cosy comfort inside. Unlike any other site our glamping is truly in the wild with no other tents in sight.
From the moment you book your stay in one of woodland escapes, you can look forward to being taken care of while you unwind at Ruberslaw Wild Woods. All you need to bring with you is your personal luggage, towels, food and drink to enjoy during your off-grid stay.
On arrival we provide you with a map of your walking route to your chosen tent then you can stretch your legs, walking empty handed while we transport all of your luggage to the tent.
