West Lancs Canine Centre, established 1989, has been an accredited dog training centre with the Kennel Club for more than 15 years and has been a member of The British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers (BIPDT) for 10 years. We have provided puppy training, adult dog training and one to one training for behaviour issues for the 30 years, helping thousands of dog owners develop their dog, the right way.

We specialise in obedience and agility training and dog behaviour development and rehabilitation for puppies and dogs of all ages. We are the most established dog training centre in the Liverpool and Southport area, with up to 8 different classes every week with experienced instructors to hand. All breeds welcome!

We offer Kennel Club Good Citizen courses for puppies and adult dogs, from basic to advanced training in a secure floodlit 4 acre site in Formby, Merseyside.

One to One Training
If you have some general training problems you should try a one to one training session. We can cover basic training problems like pulling, recall, stays and manners. We can also cover advancing your dog’s training, exercises like; distance control, off lead heelwork, agility and much more can also be covered.

Training one to ones can take place either at our training West Lancs Canine Centre in Formby, between Southport and Liverpool or at different locations.

Specialist Obedience
Specialist / Competitive obedience can be enjoyed by dogs and owners at all levels of training. By doing something different you can improve the relationship you have with your dog and have some fun along the way! You can come for fun or to progress to competition – we encourage you to make your own mind up. Remember that enjoying training your dog is the main thing for both you & us!

Basic Training Courses
Whether you want to teach your dog the basics or aim for more – we can help! Basic training courses can be tailored to your needs, whether you can commit to multiple classes or just the one – we have courses available for everyone and their dog.

Puppy Foundation class; focuses on The Kennel Club Good Citizen Puppy Foundation Award. In this course socialisation in incorporated into learning the basics, your dog will enjoy all of the exercises and learn at a much greater pace. At the end of every puppy class we do some basic agility, puppies can`t jump high or far but we can help them overcome the psychological barriers required to perform these tasks. As your puppy progresses he or she will be tested with more difficult exercises by your instructor and as your knowledge develops you will also be able to develop them at home or on walks.

Puppy / Adult Dog Bronze; this is our basic level that focuses on The Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award. Bronze level focuses on social responses, general obedience such as positions, stays, recall and heelwork and owner dog relationships. Once this level is achieved you can then aim for silver, this level covers similar exercises but with a higher difficulty level. When you have passed Silver you have completed elementary level.

Progression / Advanced; this level focuses on The Kennel Club Good Citizen Silver & Gold Award. Silver aims at developing your dogs focus around distractions and Gold level aims at developing your dog`s responses to new exercises and mastering them, a gold dog responds to commands amongst a variety of distractions and can perform a range of obedience exercises.

Specialist Training; Once your dog has achieved Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold you may wish to master a specific type of training. Below are the specialisms that are available to you and your dog;
