Andrew Mellor Veterinary Surgery in Blackpool, Lancashire
Excellence, compassion and InvolvementAndrew Mellor Veterinary Surgeons in Thornton-Cleveleys strives to provide the best possible surgical, medical and diagnostic services for your pets.
David Wadsworth founded the practice on 1st Jan 1974 building up the practice and business priding himself on being the most advanced and best practice on the Fylde coast. After 38 years David retired in November 2012 and Andrew and family bought the practice. Andrew joined the surgery in 1997 and became lead vet around 2005.
This really is a family business with good family values. Wanting to expand on the excellent work and reputation David established and created and really drive forward a ‘team working’ approach.
As a team we are raising funds and awareness for Canine partners an amazing charity. The practice has been inspected, is of RCVS approved status and is also a Training Practice for Veterinary Nurses.
Andrew Mellor Veterinary Surgery Facilities
The surgery has a full range of operative equipment, a custom built dental table and ultrasound tooth scaling equipment, radiography facilities, ECG machine to monitor heart irregularities, endoscopic equipment (to allow direct vision of windpipes, stomachs and large bowels) and ultrasound to give non invasive views of internal organs.
The practice laboratory is able to examine blood samples for changes in the blood chemistry and cells. Urine samples may be examined and a special test helps in the diagnosis of two important feline viruses.
The practice uses the services of a local diagnostic laboratory for any histological or more complicated test.
Our kennels are spacious, secure and easy access, with 2 walk in kennels for larger pets. If your pet has to stay with us for a length of time we have visiting facilities.
Andrew Mellor Veterinary Surgery Services
The practice offers health care for all types of domestic pet from giant breed dogs down to the smallest mouse.
The practice offers the patient a full range of preventative and therapeutic services. Puppies and kittens are examined by a veterinary surgeon and advice given on feeding, worming, flea control, vaccination exercise and neutering. Behavioural problems may be discussed and referral to a specialist advised if it is deemed appropriate. Routine check ups will include vaccine advice and a chance to discuss your concerns about your pet.
Consultations are always carried out by qualified Veterinary surgeons to ensure the health and well being of your pet and provide the most up to date and relevant information to you the owner.
Should surgery be required, a veterinary surgeon will speak to you on both admission and discharge of your pet to ensure that you are kept fully in the picture. Our veterinary surgeons are on hand to discuss any concerns you may have and a veterinary nurse will routinely phone in the few days following surgery to ensure that all is going according to plan.
Dedicated nurses look after your pet during their stay with us and should hospitalisation be required for a number of days we encourage visits so that you can keep updated with progress.
Where ongoing treatment is required, the practice will dispense repeat medication provided that the veterinary surgeon is content that this is required. Patients receiving repeat medication will need their case reviewing and re-examining every six months or at an earlier interval if this is deemed necessary.
Both vets take referrals from other practices for surgical procedures. Andrew has vast knowledge and experience with orthopaedic, constructive and complex thoracic procedures. Carlos undertakes
Acupuncture to compliment traditional treatments. Both Vets have vast experience in the treatment (surgical and chemotherapy) of Cancer related illnesses.
Our nurses run FREE clinics to support you and your pet with weight control, ageing, dental, behavioural and general advice to ensure your pet is and remains as healthy as possible.
The practice now has a fully equipped vehicle to facilitate home visits, deliveries and a collection and drop of service.
