An Taigh Clach - Pet Friendly Accommodation in Western Isles, Highland
Situated in the crofting township of Carloway on the Atlantic west coast of the Isle of Lewis, this cottage is ideally and centrally located for exploring the whole island and is perfect for day trips to any specific area of interest. If you don’t drive, the cottage is well catered for by a public bus service which will stop literally yards from your door. Being on the west coast circular route makes getting anywhere on the island relatively easy. This area is also served by the single track Pentland Road which cuts directly across the island to Stornoway and is an ideal way to view the heatherclad Lewis moor and peatlands in their as yet natural unspoilt condition.
Built as a traditional family croft house in the early 1900s and latterly used as an agricultural barn, this purposely converted and traditionally constructed solid stone building has survived the best, and worst, that nature and the elements have thrown at it. Within the walls of the original building, the bedrooms and shower room are shielded by 600mm of stone and clay plus 50mm of modern insulation…just to be sure.
The living space has been planned and laid out to give the maximum viewing exposure just in case our normally dry and sunny weather takes an unpredictable change for the worse, which, on reflection could actually happen several times in one day!

Utility Shed
The adjacent utility shed (dog house) could be just that if Dad burns the Stornoway Black Pudding (available from Charles Macleod Butchers) for the traditional Scottish cooked breakfast but the primary use is for hanging your surfing or wet weather gear and for bicycle storage. With a self-draining floor, it won’t matter how wet your foul weather gear becomes as it can be washed down with fresh water from the tap installed. Please note that care must be taken at all times to keep dogs on their leads in this crofting township.
