Dog Friendly Glamping in Yurts - Southern England
Around five years ago, in the middle of our rural valley in Hampshire, we set up a Yurt Village.
Why? To this day I cannot give you an honest answer.
It has something to do with a desire to share our beautiful valley and let people see what we do on our farm.
It has something to do with very supportive staff. Those that work in our dairy, who were keen to show people their cows and let them have a go at milking. The people who process the bookings and keep the yurts spotlessly clean, making the whole experience easy as well as enjoyable. The people who run the fly fishery and patiently spend time teaching beginners to cast in an elegant and beautiful manner.
It has something to do with providing a short break that is not a holiday let, nor a tent.
One thing for certain, we didn't know who to expect and as it happened we attracted many different types of people. And because of this, we went on to develop many different experiences to make a really special break for all of these different types of people.
Dogs are VERY welcome.....
Dogs and pets are part of the family and if you're a dog lover, we think they should be able to join you on your holiday and our Yurt Village is ideally suited to bringing your best beloved.
Each yurt has fresh water for you to keep your dog bowls full and there are plenty of sticks and logs about for their amusement. They are welcome to sleep with you in your yurt (although preferably not on the bed).
Surrounding your yurt, there are loads of footpaths and trails for you and your dog, to enjoy the space and freedom of the Hampshire countryside and we can provide you with dog walking ideas, when you arrive.
A good first walk is down to our Fly Fishery, about 1/2 a mile, where dogs can live out on the verandah, whilst you have a cup of tea or something stronger, overlooking the lakes. If you want to take your dog a little further, East Meon is just 40 minutes away, with two pubs and a church.
Although many of the beaches are not so keen on dogs, there are many country parks that welcome them. Try, for example, Alice Holt, which has really good facilities for dogs and family alike.
And, if you wish to have a day out without your dog, call Emma on 07748 738098, who will look after him/her. (Emma lives on the farm and has dogs of her own).
Our Yurt Village consists of six Mongolian Yurts spaced amongst the trees, behind a group of buildings that used to house pigs.
The Yurts
Our yurts each sleep a maximum of six in any of the below configurations.
Four single beds or two doubles - One futon (can sleep one or two)
If required, a camp bed or travel cot - Duvets, pillows, clean linen and blankets are supplied.
The yurts are supplied for you to do simple cooking and barbecues. Alternatively, you can use The Yurtery.
The Yurtery
Unique to Meon Springs, you will find The Yurtery, a large centrally heated area, in which families and Yurt Adventurers can chill out.
In the Yurtery there is a fully fitted kitchen, with worktops, sinks and equipment, your own individual fridge, two shared cookers, big enough for the Sunday Roast and three large wet rooms, with piping hot showers, loos and sinks.
Outside
Each yurt has its own barbecue and fire-pit. There is also a communal fire-pit for you to gather round in the evenings.
Our valley is remote, yet we do have neighbours and fellow yurters to consider. So (and this is really important) When outside at night, you do need to be quiet.
Other
All the wood needed for your wood-burner and campfire is supplied free of charge. We also supply firelighters.
You can buy charcoal for the barbecue at the local garage in West Meon.
You need to bring food, which you can organise when you book, by doing an online shopping order with Tesco, Sainsbury or Ocado.
“Other than food, all you need to bring are your own towels and don’t forget your toothbrush…”
