Black Pig Retreats

Black Pig Retreats - Dog Friendly Glamping in Shaftesbury, Dorset

With 3 luxurious safari tents, a beautiful bothy and a gorgeous yurt set in rural Dorset, our little farm is the perfect destination for a country escape. We aim to offer the perfect holiday for families, couples or groups of friends.  Accommodation can be booked individually or the whole site is perfect for a family get-together.

We work extremely hard to support our local environment and encourage biodiversity and we are rewarded by seeing a huge array of wildlife on our farm. We were proud to be finalists for the Dorset Environmental Award at the 2019 Dorset Business Awards.

Spend time exploring our idyllic farm or relaxing on the large deck looking out across the Blackmore Vale. There are plenty of local attractions to be enjoyed ona rainy day and the magnificent Jurassic coastline is an easy drive away.

Our two largest tents, Murciano and Gascon, are situated in a wild meadow with fabulous views over the Blackmore Vale and each sleep six people; perfect for family holidays or group stays. Piglet is tucked away in the lower corner. Our third safari tent, Mukota, shares an idyllic meadow with the Bothy, making them great for groups to book together. It's a perfect location for spotting butterflies in the Summer or picking blackberries from the hedge line in Autumn.

All our tents have en-suite facilities including hot showers, flushing loos and heated towel rails. The kitchens are fully equipped with small fridge-freezers, gas hobs and wood-fired ovens as well as crockery and cutlery. There are no mains electricity sockets or Wi-fi, so this is the ultimate escape from the distractions of modern life, although most networks do receive 4G coverage. We can offer a designated work space in our honesty shop with access to Wi-fi if you need to catch up with work.

The Bothy and Piglet are more quirky, in that their bathroom facilities and kitchens are close by but not in the same building. Curl up in front of the fire with a mug of tea and a good book, or relax in the sunshine on the large deck looking out over the countryside. There's something for everyone to do with woods, meadows and fields to explore as well as a shallow brook that runs through the farm creating endless possibilities for adventure...

Dog Friendly
With fabulous local walking and plenty of space for them to gallop around, we couldn't possibly stop you from bringing your faithful companion along! We currently have two beautiful labs living on the farm, Nell and Bertie, as well as Purdy the Cockapoo and two of her puppies, Mango and Maggie!, so we appreciate that family holidays aren't the same without a four-legged friend. We charge £25 per dog to account for the inevitable extra cleaning that will be required after their stay!

Cafe
Matilda and Natalie run a flower farm and Italian-inspired cafe on the farm. As guests of Black Pig Retreats, you can enjoy aperitivo in the cafe on Friday nights - this consists of sharing boards (including pudding platters) which serve as a pre-dinner nibbles or a light supper. The cafe is also licensed, so you can either enjoy a drink on-site or purchase alcohol to take away. Brunch is served between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday, Thursday. Friday (open tountil10pm), Saturday and Sunday but you can find further information about opening hours and menus via the website link below. The flower farm provides copious blooms which you will find in your tent, but you can also purchase a bunch to take home with you if desired.
