Dog Friendly Beach in Instow, Devon
Instow and Appledore are ideally situated between Cornwall and Exmore
We are fortunate enough to have wonderful DOG FRIENDLY BEACH'S PUBS AND HOLIDAY COTTAGES/B&B as well as a Ferry between Instow and Appledore.
Instow beach is an ideal safe and pretty beach with a backdrop of Rolling Hills to Exmoor
situated by the Tarka Trail and with wonderful views accross to Appledore - the Bideford Barand the Bio-sphere
(the only one in the country) we are also part of the AONB the area of outstanding natual beauty along the North Devon Coastline.
There is a dog friendly Ferry which runs depending on tide between Instow and Appledore a quaint Fishing Village with dog friendly pubs, galleries shops and Holiday Cottages.

“I have been using this ''Estuary Water Mouth Beach'' for over fifty year's and it has always been Dog Friendly , so lovely to see every one taking care to pick up and mingle with their dogs and other folk along this Beautiful Shore Line free from abuse or nasty comment's mmm yes our land is free and we should all stick together to make it so , How uplifting it is to be able to do so ( we who have had children and lost, we who can not have children, we have children and a dog or two + , lost our other half or just single ) 'We Are All Free To Walk Here' WOW TO INSTOW LOVE SENT TO ALL XXXX ”

“The facts are clear. For some 5-years Instow Parish Council have tried without success to bring in a dog ban for the main part of the beach. This summer, without legal authority, they have erected no less than 5-huge signs stating no dogs on the main part of this beach. This is an extremely controversial issue and most of those dog walkers using this beach totally and quite rightly ignored these illegal signs. Dog Walkers Alliance and local people are still fighting this issue and we have the support of Chris Packham. This beach has the worst polluted water in the whole of the EU and signs read 'no swimming at any time'; fast dangerous currents; sewage pollution & farm run of. This is not a beach for young children - but fabulous for dog walkers! Also, many complaints have been made against Instow Parish Council for the way it operates! ”

“The only restrictions are on parking from the 1st May 2018. Not on dogs. I'm concerned these reviews are being made by some of the Instow Parish Council trying to ban dogs. Please come with your children and furry friends! ”

“No idea what Mrs Friend is talking about! Instow Beach is available to dogs 365 days a year with NO restrictions. Dog owners fastidiously clear up after their dogs. All dogs I havee sen in 15 years interact wonderfully with visiting families. My Alsation is oftern 'adopted' during the season by young visitors. AAA Beach fo Dogs and for Families 365 days a year.”

“ BE VERY CAREFUL YOU DOG LOVERS INSTOW IS NOT ALL YEAR ROUND BEACH IF YOU GO ON THE DOG FRIENDLY BEACHES INSTOW WILL COME UP BUT THE COUNCIL REPORT TELLS YOU THE BEACH SIDE IS ONLY DOG FRIENDLY OUT OF SEASON TIMES AND WARDENS DO GO AND CHECK IT ALSO SHOWS YOU A MAP WHERE DOGS CAN GO IN THE SUMMER SADLEY IT IS NOT ON THE BEACH AS SHOWN SO BE CAREFUL YOU COULD BE FINED EVEN IF YOUR DOG IS WELL BEHAVED ”

“I find it VERY misleading for INSTOW to claim to be a DOG FRIENDLY beach yet it does not welcome dogs during the holiday season. They always used to have part of the beach set aside for dog owners and their families. My customers with dogs will be advised that INSTOW is not as welcoming as it leads you to believe.”
