Tom’s Barn – 5 Star, Dog Friendly Romantic Cottage for Two

Dog Friendly Accommodation in Derbyshire

Dog-friendly Tom’s Barn is one of our two Five Star Gold Award self-catering holiday cottages in the Derbyshire Peak District: luxury accommodation for two, very attractively converted from old limestone cowsheds.

We warmly welcome well-behaved dogs and their owners to Tom’s Barn. (Please note, we keep Douglas’s Barn pet-free to cater for those that have allergies or would simply prefer it.) There are wonderful walks right from the door in the surrounding Peak District countryside yet we are only a short stroll from the heart of the village with its pub where dogs are allowed inside.

Our Tom’s Barn guests particularly love the romantic galleried bedroom complete with the original roof truss, the deep two-seater whirlpool bath (up two steps and down…) and the cosy log burner downstairs. We do not allow dogs upstairs but most anyway would prefer to stay in their favourite spot in front of the fire downstairs!

We work hard at keeping the barn spotless, and sweet smelling, with never a hint of ‘dog’. Not all our guests are dog owners and we are delighted that many never suspect for a moment that they are staying in a barn that does!

In fact, we are told by many of our happy dog-loving guests that, whilst many extremely comfortable cottages accept dogs, it is unusual to find really top quality holiday accommodation that will.

Useful things for dog-owners to know:
We assume all owners will bring their dog’s own equipment, bedding, bowls etc

There is a stair gate at the foot of the stairs to make it easy to prevent your dog going upstairs

We provide dustsheets if necessary for the furniture (many bring their own)

We provide a couple of old towels (again, most owners bring their own)

We have a spare dog bowl, lead etc, handy if you find you have forgotten yours

There is a dog-poo bin less than 100 yards from our back gate

There is a twisty, narrow little country lane behind us which is perfect for early morning walks

There are unlimited walks further afield

Several pubs in the area accept dogs including the village pub the Sycamore Inn

The garden is completely fenced in.

If your dog is muddy and needs a wash, there is a hose and cold water tap on the corner of our house OR

Most owners fill a bucket with warmer water from the kitchen!

There is an excellent vet in Ashbourne.

Dog-minder/groomer: We have a lovely lady in the village called Delia Pegg, who will walk, dog sit or groom your dog upon request. Her fee obviously depends on what you would like her to do and for how long.

I am Angela and live next door. I will be there to welcome you and am on the spot thereafter if you need me but I don’t ever interfere!

A great place to get engaged
This has been one of the most amazing weekends of our lives and a massive part is due to Douglas's Barn & Angela. We received the warmest of welcomes (with beautiful cake) followed by a very special couple of days. The barn is peaceful and idyllic and we will never forget the time we spent there. What an amazing place to spend our first anniversary in. Kitted out amazingly and decorated beautifully. Thanks to Janet for the warm welcome and also for the supplies. So nice to not worry about milk, bread and butter. The marmalade was delicious. The walks and the countryside have been outstanding and the next time we come we will have more than a weekend.
