“The cottage (The Old Barn)was well equipped and spotlessly clean with two modern bathrooms and three bedrooms x1 king, x1 doubled x1 twin(2 single beds), kitchen had all utensils and a large Double fridge freezer which was useful. The location was ideal to Walk to Derwent Water and Catbells about 30 min to Derwent and 15min to the foot of Catbells. Keswick was a short 10 min drive for nice shops/ bars and is a lovely place to visit with a nice park, boat rides etc, and lake Buttermere is definitely worth a visit I would say one of the most beautiful natural views I have ever seen.”

“We (2 adults and 2 teenage children) stayed at ‘The Old Barn’ for 7 nights in Summer 2021 (when it was super-hot and sunny!). The location was fantastic, and you’d really struggle to find somewhere better for wonderful views of Catbells and access to Newlands Valley. It meant you could easily go for wonderful walks without needing the car. The accommodation was very spacious with a generous sized kitchen/dining room, living room and master bed. The two other bedrooms where smaller but more than adequate. There was never a time you felt you didn’t have enough space, but then there was just 4 of us. During Covid19 we expected rental properties to be extra clean, however this was far from the case. The property was not clean. For example, much cutlery and glasses needed a wash on arrival. The bathrooms, on first appearance looked ok, but soon you realised the muck, mold, bits of rust and dust. It’s all the small things like: no bag for any of the bins in the bathrooms where others have clearly used; all the dust and dirt in the utility room; or the Monopoly game left in the bedroom cupboard, the user manuals for products that no longer exist, and the lack of user manual for the pretty old washing machine. Why was there was a toilet bush in the utility room! You never felt you had to use a mat to put you cup of tea down anywhere! The generous sized sofa's had crisp crumbs on them, so we had to vacuum them before we used them. The oven looked like it hadn't seen a professional clean in about 2 years, we didn't use it, nor wanted to put food in it. It felt very much like a rental property and not a home-from-home experience. The property has its own WiFi Access Point, but the internet connection is shared with next door, so often the internet was too poor even a ‘like’ button on Facebook wouldn’t work. My app for Wifi speed thought I wasn’t even connected to the internet on most occasions. We’re keen on saving water and we didn’t have a problem being told the water was low. But when we returned from a walk with multiple crates of water left on the front door, we assumed because we had no communication from the owners. we had no water at all! Whilst they appreciated us washing clothes by hand, they weren’t so keen to understand the position they had put us and all the other people in their holiday lets. No-one could have a long soak in a warm bath from a day walking for fear of the impact it would have on all the other people in their holiday lets fed from the same water supply. The owner even put the phone down on me and this was unnecessary. The toilet flush didn't work properly (wasting water) and one of the showers couldn't keep the temperature constant so we didn't use it. The kitchen had the basics and things like a microwave and a slow cooker, but it was below par. The bread knife was a bit useless and some things you'd expect weren't there which was a bit annoying. The TV isn't a smart TV and means you can watch live TV only, you can't watch anything on demand or even cast to it. Lucky we brought a large tablet and enabled a WiFi hot-spot on our 3G mobile device (which got a signal most of the time upstairs, not down). The fixtures and fittings are all a bit disjointed and don't really go with each other or look a bit odd for their setting. The property probably had a nice garden once upon a time, but like the property itself, it's not cared for. You get the feeling 'it will do' about everything. We'd rather holiday somewhere at least as nice as we live at home so it was nice to get home and be somewhere clean and cared for. Great location, but you might feel a bit robbed if you pay much more than £900 a week in peak season.”
