Maple Bank Guest House - Dog Friendly Guest House in Braithwaite, Cumbria
Maple Bank is a magnificent detached Edwardian house set in an acre of beautiful gardens near to the town of Keswick.
Right in the heart of the Lake District National Park and close to all of its many visitor sites, this bed-and-breakfast is ideally placed for walking, climbing, cycling and water sports, as well as visiting the many excellent attractions for visitors to Cumbria.
This bed-and-breakfast enjoys uninterrupted views across the Derwent valley towards the lofty Skiddaw and the smaller Latrigg, offers private off-road parking, and is within short walking distances to four pubs and country inns in the village of Braithwaite itself.
Maple Bank is a dog-friendly bed-and-breakfast and our four-legged guests are very welcome. Tara – our resident Border Terrier – is happy to share the large garden behind the house. The garden is fully enclosed and netted: a safe space to let your pooch stretch their legs after you arrive, or to pop down to first thing in the morning, or just before bedtime.
Pooh-bags are available at the front door in case you run out, along with a torch and spare leads in case you forget when you pop downstairs. Please put your used pooh-bags in the green metal dustbin by the shed in the back garden.
Extra towels are also available by the front door in case of any damp paws, and doggy towelling dressing-gowns can be borrowed in case of a real downpour!
Don’t forget to bring your dog-bed - and bowls - as we do find it helps them settle more quickly into their new surroundings.
Not all our guests have dogs staying with them, so we do ask that you consider the other houseguests when you’re coming in and out of the house. For this reason, we keep the breakfast room dog-free during breakfast time, so please either pop your pal(s) in your car during breakfast, or you can leave them in your room if they are contained securely and won't get distressed. We do have two crates available if you need them. Please note that any damage to the room caused by an unattended and unsecured dog will be charged for at departure.
Each room is cleaned thoroughly after our four-legged guests check out and are hoovered each morning after breakfast when your room is being serviced.
We charge £10 for one or two dogs, per stay. And £15 for three dogs, per stay.
Every four-legged guest who stays at Maple Bank Guest House is welcomed with their own box of goodies: Tara’s Treats. Each box contains a small bottle of dog shampoo, a roll of bio-degradable pooh-bags, a BedTime Bone, a funky little bow tie and a Maple Bank Holiday Dog-tag.

“Kate is a really friendly host who puts customers (doggy) at the top of her priorities! She gives us all doggy info first and there’s the cutest tray and box if doggy goodies in the room. She provides, mud daddy, towels, throws etc for your pet to be comfortable. She even has a doggy holiday tag , I’ve to ask her about ours yet. I’ve not seen that in the pack. The Beautiful house is immaculately clean and you wouldn’t know, there were numerous pets staying over. Kate even asks if the foggy would like a sausage for brekki! I think her charge per stay is really reasonable, we’ve had triple the cost on stays elsewhere! We’ve yet to check out the enclosed garden for the pets but I believe, it’s very secure to let your pet off lead. Our dog Bracken, is 3 and a half and I’ve got to say, in all the places we’ve stayed with him, and he’s been in a few, Maple Bank tops the stays! Thank you Kate. ”
