The Gurnard’s Head, a dining pub with eight bedrooms on Cornwall's Atlantic coast between St. Ives and St. Just, near the Minack Theatre, Zennor, Penzance and Newlyn. This is The Gurnard's Head, a dining pub with rooms on Cornwall's Atlantic coast between St. Ives and St. Just, near the Minack Theatre, Zennor, Penzance and Newlyn.

We want The Gurnard’s Head to be an inn that returns you momentarily to the slower pace of life that so many of us yearn for.

Time spent in this part of the world will unwind you as you enjoy one of the country’s most dramatic coastlines, one that has inspired artists and walkers for centuries.

The salty air is proven to make you sleep deeply in the most comfortable Vi-Spring beds. You will eat simple, earthy and delicious food. Beers, wine and sherries: all chosen because we love them.

We support our local community, source our produce with sustainability in mind, and we set our prices with our local customers in mind, not the extended tourist season. We loved the place as soon as we set eyes on it. We hope you will too. And we are open all year, so please do come and visit us.

Drinking At The Gurnard's Head
Drink flows (responsibly) through our veins at The Gurnard’s Head. Beer and wine dominate much of our thinking, the sheer variety of each a permanent demand on our attention.Here are a few rather earnest comments.

Beer must be loved and cared for in the same way as food or wine. So we do. We price our drinks for our local trade, not the stream of seasonal visitors. So London prices can remain in London.

    Carafes of wine are brilliant. We serve them in measures of 250ml or 375ml (third or half bottles). It means we can open more wines and you can have more choice.

    By serving decent sized spirit measures (35ml), we don’t oblige you to order doubles: better for you and better value. And we mix our drinks properly.

Dogs
We welcome dogs as much as their owners and are happy for them to sleep in the bedrooms, although would prefer that they don’t share our beds with their owners.

We have good tables downstairs where they can sit with you while you eat. Do ask for these when booking as so many of our guests decide to bring their dogs when visiting.

Home to so many interesting and dedicated people who grow and nurture plants and animals, West Cornwall is a wonderful place in which to run a kitchen.

And, like so many things, food is best kept simple. We have built the reputation of the Gurnard’s Head’s kitchen on this maxim.

Our short, fresh and seasonal menu changes every day according to what is brought to our back door or what our chefs feel is at its seasonal best.

In Winter you might get Fish Soup with Rouille or in summer, a Ceviche of Sea Bass alongside leaf salads foraged by Fat Hen.
