Crooklets Beach – Bude, Cornwall (Dog-Friendly)

Crooklets is a sheltered, sandy cove located at the northern edge of Bude—just a short stroll north past Summerleaze towards Wrangle Point. At low tide, the beach merges with Summerleaze, and is edged by rocky outcrops, creating a scenic coastal setting great for long walks and exploration

Dog Access & Restrictions
Dogs are prohibited on Crooklets from Easter Sunday through 30 September, typically enforced from 10 am to 6 pm each day during this period. Outside these dates—during autumn, winter, and early spring—dogs are welcome any time off-lead. If you’re visiting during the summer, plan walks before 10 am or after 6 pm when dogs are permitted

Surf & Water Conditions
This beach catches a bit more swell than nearby Widemouth Bay, offering both left and right breaks. Surfable conditions exist at all tides, including steep “left‑hander” waves at Barrel Rock near the steps. The beach suits a range of surfers—from beginners to more experienced riders—but be cautious as rocks and occasional rips are possible depending on tide and conditions

Facilities & Access
There’s a council‑run car park nearby with level access onto the promenade. Beach huts, toilets (including disabled access), showers, and a skate park are available, and several cafés, pubs and shops just off the promenade make Crooklets convenient and family friendly

Safety & Considerations
Lifeguard cover is provided by the RNLI during summer months—usually from mid‑May to the end of September—helping to keep swimmers safe. Still, be alert to local conditions: currents and rocky areas may pose hazards, especially during busy periods

Visitor Experience
Though smaller than Summerleaze, Crooklets has a relaxed charm and attracts fewer crowds, especially during off-peak months. The South West Coast Path runs nearby, offering spectacular views along the north Cornwall coastline, including vistas toward Millook and Efford Down
