Breakwater Beach

  • Rocky beach in Bude, Cornwall
  • Perfect for rock pooling

Beakwater Beach, situated on the seaward side of Bude's breakwater and across from the Bude Canal, is distinct from Summerleaze Beach. While Summerleaze boasts a golden sandy shoreline, Breakwater Beach is predominantly rocky and filled with shingle, often offering a serene and empty atmosphere.

Nestled at the base of Compass Point, Breakwater Beach possesses a rugged beauty unlike the more sheltered Summerleaze. Here, caution is advised, as the beach is exposed to powerful Atlantic swells, and no lifeguards operate in the area. During low tide, small sandy patches briefly emerge before being reclaimed by the incoming tide.

Geologists will find Breakwater Beach particularly fascinating, as the beach showcases various rock formations layered upon each other. Additionally, long rock formations extending into the sea, known as characteristic features of the "Bude Formation," add to the beach's allure.
