Cambridge Museum of Technology has reopened to the public after its major redevelopment!
The redevelopment, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England, has included repairing the historic boiler system to run the steam engines again, creating new displays on local industries and technology, and improving visitor facilities and disabled access.
What there is to see
The Electric Room and Introduction to the Museum, which features introductory text panels, an interactive model of the Pumping Station, and an electric motor that was part of the Pumping Station’s operations
The Steam Engine Room with its magnificent Hathorn Davey steam engines
The Gas Engine Room
A dressing up area for children (or adults who are young at heart)
The Valve Yard, which features historic pumps and a picnic area with lovely views of the River Cam
The Boiler House with two original boilers and the recently-restored No. 4 Boiler, which was added in 1923
The Ash Tunnel, where the leftovers from burning Cambridge's rubbish were scraped out and taken away
The Pye Building, which houses new exhibitions on local companies Pye and Cambridge Instrument Company
