Benllech Beach – Dog-Friendly Golden Sands at Anglesey
Benllech Beach sits on the northeast coast of Anglesey, a short walk from the charming village of Benllech. Known for its fine golden sand, clear blue waters, and family-friendly atmosphere, it’s particularly popular with dog owners seeking seaside walks with space and scenery.
Dog Access & Restrictions
Dogs are restricted on the main beach between 1 May and 30 September. During these months, dogs must be kept on leads and are allowed only in designated zones—often at the ends of the beach or during low tide. Outside this period, dogs can roam off-lead freely and enjoy the full expanse of the sand.
Beach Features & Surroundings
The beach is wide and gently sloping, making it ideal for long walks at low tide when the shore stretches into vast soft sand. Backed by grassy dunes and peaceful cliffs, the landscape feels open and relaxed. The nearby coastal path provides sweeping views and easy access to neighboring beaches.
Facilities & Access
Benllech village offers plenty of facilities, including cafés, shops, public toilets, and pay parking near the promenade. Access from the promenade is straightforward and dog-friendly during permitted seasons. The beach earns praise for being exceptionally clean and safe for paddling.
Safety & Considerations
While lifeguards may not always be on duty year-round, swimming areas are typically safe and supervised in peak season. Owners are advised to follow local signage about dog restrictions and keep dogs on leads where required. Clean-up fines are enforced island-wide.
Visitor Experience
Benllech combines beachside charm with convenience. It’s ideal for pet-walkers, paddle-lovers, and families alike. The summer crowd can be busy but during off-hours or seasons, the beach becomes a peaceful haven—especially for dogs keen on open sand and exploration.
