Nestled on the English - Scottish border in the once hotly contested ‘Debatable Lands’ Pentonbridge Inn offers a relaxed and refined dining experience. The once coaching Inn re-opened in late 2017 under owners Gerald and Margo Smith, after extensive renovations. Creating a space to enjoy the fantastic produce Cumbria and the UK have to offer.

In 2019, we were rewarded with the prestigious Ceaser award for best newcomer in the Good Hotel Guide, and have since retained our listing. With a further editor's choice award for a pub-with-rooms, 2022. Simultaneous restoration of Netherby Hall and its walled garden, only 3 miles down the road,  allows Head Chef Chris and his team access to the freshest of produce all year round.

Stay
9 cosy and stylish rooms take inspiration from the "Debatable Lands" of England and Scotland, with room names from  Border Reivers clans',  infamous for raiding and marauding their neighbours. Our bedrooms reflect the stunning landscape surrounding the Inn, with soft organic tones and hints of natural textures such as wood, slate, tweed, and tartan for the highest levels of comfort and style.

There are touches of indulgence to make your stay as special as possible,  including flowers from the Netherby Hall gardens to fluffy towels and a welcome treat from our kitchen ready for your arrival.​

4 of our 9 rooms have the added luxury of a large bath as well as a walk-in shower. And for those with four-legged friends our barn rooms Maxwell, Armestronge and Rutledge are serviced with dog bed, bowls and treats.

Offering our 4-course menu allows us to highlight our fantastic suppliers and the best produce grown in our walled garden at Netherby Hall. Reflective of our Head chef Chris' unique style of modern British cuisine, and love of seasonal local ingredients. Our menu relishes in the natural Cumbrian larder that we are lucky to call home.  All served in our casual fine dining restaurant.

Select your favourite dish from each course to create your own bespoke menu, interspersed with our small dishes throughout. ​Each course can be paired with a wine flight chosen by our team to complement the kitchen's seasonally changing menu. Our curated wine and drinks lists are made up of growers and bottlings we champion and love to drink, old and new.
